My Brothers Are Reading! :)

At last! Two of my younger brothers (#4 & #5 — ages 14 & 16) have sort of caught the reading bug. I never thought I would see the day when those two would have to be told, “Put the book away!” For the longest time, they were the least likely of my siblings to be seen reading a book. Brother #4 would start an extremely small book and only reach the third or fourth chapter before just putting the book away. And it would take him about a month to even get that far! Shocking, I know!  Brother #5 rarely even picked up a book unless forced to because of school.

As much as I love books, it saddened me to hear my own siblings utter those awful words: “I don’t like to read!” and “Books aren’t any fun!”

Lately, however, due to Star Wars and Frank Peretti, they have taken up reading after all. Brother #4 has discovered the Star Wars books at our local library and they have become his constant companions. Brother #5 finally decided to try “The Cooper Kids Adventure Series” by Frank Peretti. He sounds so surprised when he tells me, “This book is really good!”   😉

Honestly, I’m happy for them. I didn’t want to have to force them to read — that just made them hate books even more. But, still, I knew what they were missing and wanted to show them how great books really are.  I’m so glad they finally discovered books they enjoy! 🙂

  1. I know the feeling! For the longest time two of my siblings, the sis and bro right after me in the line-up, didn’t like to read at all we had to practically force them to get the required number of books done for school. I don’t remember what books exactly got them to actually enjoy reading, but my sis reads a decent amount now and my brother will read some but it’s harder to find him good teen boy books. The series that he’s loved the most and read crazy fast was Andrew Klaven’s Homelander series. He is currently anxiously waiting for the day that the newest Klaven book comes in the mail!

It is so hard to find good books for Christian teen boys! 😦 Grrr… Frustrating!!
Brother #3 (the one who reads almost as much as I do) was reading each Homelander book as I finished it… And he loved them too! But Brother #4 had the first Homelander book for 1 1/2 months and didn’t even get 1/4 through it… I was so shocked! But I guess they just aren’t the type of books he likes.
