I’ve been thinking about names a lot here lately and thought I’d share some of my favorites. The problem is that I absolutely love names and I have a super hard time choosing favorites. So, I thought I’d start with the letter A and work my way through the alphabet doing a post every Friday. How does that sound?
GIRL
Anika — very beautiful
Adriel — follower of God
Aimee — beloved
Adrianna — dark woman from the sea
Anya/Anja — graceful
Adelaide — noble and kind
Ashtony — (surname) meaning unknown
Ariadne — the holy one
Andraya — trusted by God
Antonia/Antoinette — beyond price, praiseworthy
Aurelia — golden
Amberleigh/Amberly — meaning unknown
BOY
Adrian — dark, rich
Alekzandr — protector of men
Axel — source of all life
Aaron — exalted
Andre — strong, manly
Allen — handsome, fair
Asher — blessed, happy
Aidan — little fiery one
Now, you must understand that I’m not compiling a list of potential names for future children. While most of these names I wouldn’t mind giving to my own children, there are a few that I wouldn’t. As some of my readers may know, I consider myself a bit of a writer… and some of my characters will end up with these names. Just thought I’d clarify. 😉
Anyway, if you enjoyed this post, please leave a comment and let me know! Or share some of your favorite “A-names” with me; I’m always interested in hearing what names other people like! 🙂
And be sure to come back for another post next Friday! 🙂
Oh I love those! And my favorite a names..for a girl: Amber-fierce. Aubrey – Elf wisdom. Great. 😀

That is a really neat idea, I too am pretty fond of names…My favorite A names for girls are probably Ann(not just because it is my middle name, even if it wasn’t I am sure it would still be a fav:-)) and Auraylia. Ann means Gracious, but I have no idea what Auraylia means…..I have looked it up on several sites but can’t find it…..to be honest, I think I could have made it up…..
As for boys, I love the name Aaron as well and Austin.

Okay, I can see that I’m gonna have to update my post… 😉 I have always liked the name Aurelia — I’m assuming that Auraylia is just a variant spelling of that name. And I like the name Ann as well, though I prefer the Russian form: Anya/Anja.

Oh yes I like Anya too!!! And yes, I suppose Auraylia is just a different spelling…..do you know what it means??????

These are some great names! Understandable your trying to clarify that these are “character” names. To find new names for characters, or period names for historical characters, I actually look on sites meant for choosing names for children. 😀
Have a great weekend!

Well, most of them I would be okay with giving to my kids — most of them. 😉

Whoa this is cool! 🙂
Some of my favorite girl names are Angela (messenger from God); Evangeline (bearer of good news); Hannah (favor/grace of God); Elisabeth (consecrated to God) and Olysea (defender of mankind – and this has nothing to do with it being my middle name, I used to hate it because I know a boy named Alexander which means the same thing)
And boy names………….. I guess I’ve never thought about that much. Richard (powerful/strong ruler); Aidan (like you); Orlando (renowned in the land – ha ha ha ha HA ;D); Nicholas (victorious), and Elijah/Elias (the LORD is my God) 🙂
Awesome list!

Great idea of posting names of each letter of the alphabet! 😉 I really like some of the names you posted: Adriel, Adrianna, Aaron, Aidan, Alekzandr (‘cept I’d probably spell it Alexander 😉 ). A few other of my favorite A names are Abigail, Anne, and Andrew.

My nephew’s middle name is Alexander & I really like it! But I just fell in love with the Russian spelling: Aleksandr. Then I decided to trade the “S” for “Z”… Can’t decide which way I prefer it. 😉
Thanks for sharing! 🙂

This is awesome, Aery! And you could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw Aurelia on your list, since that’s the name of a main character in the book I’m writing now! Talk about ESP! ;p
