And there’s another name that I discovered this year that I’m really starting to like a lot.  The name is Samaje.
This name came to my attention because of Oklahoma Sooners Running Back Samaje Perine (see photo at right & below).

I have no idea what this name means (can anyone tell me?), but I can tell you how to pronounce it — sa-MAJ-ay.  At first, I wasn’t too sure if I liked this name or not, but it’s definitely growing on me!  Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that I’ve been hearing it for several hours nearly every Saturday since football season started? 😉  Possibly…  All I know is this: the more I hear it, the more I like it!

What do y’all think?  Do you like it or is it “too unique” for you?

  1. Svetlana, Svetlana! I have loved that name for years. Those Russians sure know how to pick ’em, don’t they? 😉 Sean is just about one of my all-time favorites. I’m don’t have many favorite S names for girls, but a couple of boys’ names I have liked for ages are Sergei and Seth. And I’m with you on Samaje! Unique names are awesome. ;D

BTW, I just did some research on his name to see if I could find anything, but the origin info only shows up for the name Samaj. In that version, it’s an Indian name and means “Lord Indra.” ( So maybe his parents added the e to the end of it to make it even more unique?

Thanks for stopping by, M! 🙂
Yeah, Svetlana is a name that I probably wouldn’t give to my daughter (perhaps for a middle name, though…), but I’ve loved it for a long time! Oh, I love Sergei! Kills me when people mispronounce it, though. :/ And I knew you’d like Samaje… 😉

Oh thanks, dear! I remember seeing that when I was looking it up, but I wasn’t sure that’s where they got the name, so I didn’t want to put that meaning on the post. But you may be right.

  2. I have always loved the names Sara,Sophie, and Skye. I have an uncle named Shane.
